Capital Works Campaign

Keep the Blue Cross Shining

Queensland’s premier memorial for Catholic sailors and soldiers who died during World War I

Join us to realise an exciting opportunity to leverage the significant heritage and cultural value of our site, creating an interpretive corridor that will enhance the church setting, and benefit parishioners, visitors and the community.

As we approach 100 years since the church was opened, our parish is making plans for how best to protect, preserve and promote its beauty and functionality for the next hundred years.

Help us reach our first target!

For donations over $10.00.
If you have any difficulty with the payment process, please contact us.

Stage 1 Fundraising 80%

Turning a challenge into an opportunity

Phase 1
Our heritage-listed church has a stunning location. Its proximity to the CBD and its spiritual depth already attract English and Polish-speaking people from all over Brisbane. This project will enable us to creatively address urgent repairs and promote the parish to all Queenslanders as a premier pilgrimage destination close to the city.

What we’re aiming for

  • Stabilisation of a major retaining wall and site boundary
  • A new memorial wall, fence and landscaping
  • Interpretive corridor with opportunities for shade and seating to improve the amenity of the site
  • Enhanced disability/carparking access
  • Upgraded stair access from Boyd Street to the church level
  • Medium and Long term vision planning

How we start

Stage 1 – $75,000

  • Geotechnical investigative works and surveys
  • Engineering assessments
  • Initial design options with detailed cost estimates
  • Community consultation / feedback
  • Heritage consultancy and compliance
